Elkhart Community Schools students and staff are teaming up with the Salvation Army to fight food insecurity this November.

Collection boxes, donated by Welch Packaging, will be available at all district schools, the Career Center, Hawthorne Learning Center and the Administration building.

Families and community members are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items between November 3 and 24.

All donations will go to the Elkhart Salvation Army’s food pantry, which supports local families in need. Cereal, peanut butter, canned fruits, vegetables and soups are especially appreciated.

What are the Schools going to do about the causes of “food insecurity?” When parents are more involved with their drugs than their kids why should I help them through my school supporting property taxes? I managed to avoid drugs and alcohol for my entire life and take care of my kids. Take care of your own. Perhaps get married. It is a lot easier to function when yo have a partner. I pay my property tax to educate kids not feed their families or participate in fruitless social profiling.
