A mother accused in the death of her six-year-old stepson has pleaded guilty to murder.

27-year-old Cheyenne Elmore signed plea papers while in the Elkhart County Jail, admitting to aiding, inducing or causing the child’s death last August.

Investigators say Elmore and her husband, 29-year-old Franklin Elmore Jr., were arrested after first responders found the boy unresponsive at their home on C.R. 22.

The Goshen News says the child suffered extensive bruising, internal injuries and signs of malnourishment.

Prosecutors say Cheyenne failed to intervene or report ongoing abuse that ultimately led to the boy’s death.

Her sentencing is set for January 13 at 9:30 a.m.
