A possible data center could be coming to the city of South Bend, though city leaders say nothing is confirmed.
City Councilman Oliver Davis says he received documents from area farmers referencing a potential 300-acre data center near the ethanol plant area.
Davis says he was not previously aware of any discussions. The development talk comes less than a week after rezoning was denied for a proposed data center near New Carlisle.
South Bend officials call the idea “speculative at best.” WSBT says the city claims it would welcome an environmentally responsible investment but stressed no formal proposal exists.
Davis says residents want transparency and clear answers.
Regional Chamber President Jeff Rea says without a company name attached, it may simply be land speculation.

IF the people and the “leaders” of South Bend allows such an energy hog into their town they will rue the day. Over and over again, the claims of the data center proponents turn out to be false. Better listen to Casey Hendrickson on the radio. How much more great farmland will lbe sacrificed for data or electricity?
Funny how all these data centers seem to be finalized when THE PEOPLE first hear about them. It’s almost like an insider deal……………………….Then no one wants to talk about the rising electricity and other costs to THE PEOPLE and TAXPAYERS so some moguls can rip us off. But I doubt any voters will remember this when it comes time to clean house at city hall.
