City of South Bend resumes fall leaf pickup

The City of South Bend has resumed its Fall Leaf Pickup program, weather permitting.
City officials say the program was temporarily suspended earlier this month due to heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures. With warmer conditions and melting snow expected, crews are able to restart operations. However, the program may be suspended again if inclement weather returns.
For leaf collection to take place, leaves must be free of snow and temperatures must remain above freezing so equipment can operate safely. Wet conditions may also delay pickup, as saturated leaves can clog collection equipment.
Leaf pickup will resume in Zone 7 and will continue as weather conditions allow. Crews will work street by street and complete each zone before moving on to the next.
City officials remind residents to follow these guidelines to ensure successful pickup:
Set-out time: Leaves should be raked to the tree lawn area — not into the street — by 6 a.m. on the scheduled pickup date.
Keep piles clean: Leaf piles must be free of sticks, trash, and other debris.
Avoid parking near piles: Vehicles should not be parked on or in front of leaf piles along the curb.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions, as changes could impact the schedule.
