St. Joseph County Council is working to update the county’s noise ordinance to better protect residents near industrial sites like data centers.
On Tuesday, members discussed new limits on sound, clearer monitoring rules, and enforceable standards for all land zones, including farms.
Council President Bryan Tanner said the current rules are confusing and hard to enforce, while Councilman Randy Figg worried normal farm activities could be affected.
The bill was held in committee, though it would grandfather existing industrial sites.
