Homelessness is rising faster in Indiana’s rural communities than in its major cities.
A new report shows rural homelessness jumped nearly 17% over the last two years, compared to a nine percent increase in urban areas.
Advocates say the numbers are likely even higher, as rural residents often hide in temporary or unsafe housing to avoid detection.
Local leaders are now calling for expanded community-based support to address the growing displacement in our smaller towns.

Reopening the mental institutions will help fix this problem. Trump has signed an executive order to do just that. Shutting down the institutions and pushing these people on the street was not fair to them or us.
Unemployment is effectively zero so jobs are not likely the issue.
