The Indiana Supreme Court ruled that hospitals and medical providers cannot be held liable for complications arising during COVID-19 treatment, citing state and federal immunity statutes.
The court dismissed claims brought by the estate of a patient who developed a severe bed sore while being treated for COVID-19.
The ruling stated that immunity is a legal defense and does not require expert medical analysis.
The court found that the care provided to the patient was directly connected to COVID-19 treatment, making the providers immune from liability.
