Community members gathered in South Bend Friday to call for an end to gun violence following a recent deadly shooting involving a teenager.
A South Bend man has been charged in the death of a 16-year-old boy earlier this month.
Riley High School Principal Shawn Henderson said the loss has deeply affected students.
Local activist Lynn Coleman urged residents to find nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts and called for greater accountability from adults.
Police data shows 574 shooting incidents in 2025, down from 649 in 2024, though officials remain concerned about youth involvement.
Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said the consequences of gun violence are permanent.
Funeral services for the teen are scheduled for Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home and are open to the public.

It’s not going to end until you fix your culture, and nobody has the testicular fortitude to point that out… let alone actually do anything about it.
