Man found unconscious outside Michigan City Church dies, investigation ongoing

Authorities are investigating the death of a man found unresponsive outside a local church.
Police say the LaPorte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call around 9:48 a.m. on Friday, March 27, reporting an unconscious person outside Temple Missionary Baptist Church in the 2700 block of Wabash Street.
Officers arrived and located 57-year-old Erik Johnson lying on the ground. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures before Johnson was transported to Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City, where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Investigators say there is no indication of a threat to the public at this time. Officials are withholding additional details as the investigation continues.
The Michigan City Fire Department, LaPorte County EMS, and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
