An Elkhart woman sentenced in the death of her 6-year-old stepson is now seeking to appeal her sentence.

27-year-old Cheyenne Elmore pleaded guilty to murder for aiding in the August 2025 killing of the child and received a 65-year sentence, with five years suspended.

Investigators say the child suffered extensive injuries and ongoing abuse. Her husband, Franklin Elmore Jr., was also sentenced to 65 years.

The Goshen News says a public defender was appointed with a notice of appeal expected to be filed by the deadline as the case now moves forward.
