A lengthy drug investigation by the Indiana State Police has led to the seizure of nearly two pounds of fentanyl, along with other drugs, firearms, and cash in St. Joseph County.
Police say the investigation began in February 2025 and culminated on Thursday morning, May 7, with simultaneous search warrants at two homes in South Bend and one in Mishawaka.
Authorities estimate the amount of fentanyl seized could equal more than 200-thousand potentially lethal doses.
Investigators say officers recovered about 450 grams of suspected fentanyl and three firearms from a home in the 1500 block of Liberty Drive in Mishawaka. One of the guns was reported stolen. A 7-year-old child was inside the home during the raid.
At a home in the 1300 block of Sorin Street in South Bend, police say they found suspected heroin, Ecstasy pills, a firearm, and about 37-hundred dollars in cash. Four children were reportedly inside the residence.
A third search warrant at a home in the 1900 block of East Calvert Street in South Bend led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and another firearm.
Two men were arrested following the investigation.
Police identified them as 32-year-old Chris Harges of Mishawaka and 31-year-old Trayvon Mason of South Bend. Both face multiple felony charges, including dealing narcotics, possession of narcotics, maintaining a common nuisance, neglect of a dependent, and firearm-related offenses.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the South Bend Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
