The former police chief of Baroda-Lake Township has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor embezzlement and agreed to repay more than $170,000.
Shawn Martin entered the plea Friday following an investigation into allegations involving unauthorized overtime pay, inflated compensation requests, payments received while on vacation or out of state, and personal purchases made using department credit cards.
Investigators said the alleged misconduct occurred between 2019 and 2025.
Martin had originally faced multiple embezzlement charges filed in 2025. Under the plea agreement, he will pay $170,346.10 in restitution to Baroda-Lake Township.
