An Elkhart County man has been sentenced after investigators say he was dealing large amounts of meth and fentanyl. 

Police say Julio Sanchez was under investigation last October after receiving tips about drug activity at his home.

Officers later stopped Sanchez near Johnson Street and Beardsley Avenue and reportedly found more than 228 grams of methamphetamine, fentanyl pills, scales and packaging materials inside a backpack.

During sentencing, The Goshen News says Sanchez’s attorney said he completed more than 30 educational courses while in jail.

Sanchez was sentenced to 17-and-a-half years, with part of that time to be served through community corrections and probation.
