South Bend Schools unveil new rules for phone policy

Just like in every other school district in Indiana, students in the South Bend Community School Corporation will have to keep their cell phones turned off and out of sight throughout the school day starting July 1.
The new policy follows a state law that limits phone use during class, lunch, passing periods, study halls and other school activities.
Students will be required to store their phones in their lockers unless an exception applies. Exceptions include students with an IEP or 504 plan, a documented medical need, language translation needs for multilingual learners, or emergencies approved by the superintendent.
