Commercial Vehicle Enforcement troopers recover $11 million in stolen cargo

Indiana State Police say a specialized team of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement troopers has recovered about 12 semi-trailer loads of stolen cargo since April.

In total, those loads bring an estimated value exceeding $11 million. Investigators say organized criminal groups are using forged documents, fraudulent carrier identities, and other schemes to steal cargo across state lines.

Several suspects have been arrested or detained.

Police are urging trucking companies and shippers to watch for warning signs, including unusually low transportation rates, mismatched carrier information, and unexpected rerouting requests.
