The South Bend Museum of Art will leave the Century Center after nearly five decades.

The Civic Center Board of Managers unanimously approved a resolution giving the museum three years to move out.

The departure will free up about 40,000 square feet for possible meetings, conventions and events as officials consider the Century Center’s long-term future.

Museum leaders say they hope to remain in South Bend and continue working with the city.
