The St. Joseph County Department of Health is advising residents to take mosquito precautions after another mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus.

The latest detection was in western Olive Township near New Carlisle. It is the fourth positive mosquito pool found in the county this season, following earlier detections in Clay, Portage and Penn townships.

Health officials recommend using insect repellent, covering exposed skin when mosquitoes are active, and avoiding time outdoors around dawn and dusk when possible.

Residents are also urged to remove standing water from containers, clogged gutters, bird baths and other areas where mosquitoes can breed.
