St. Joseph County officials could face a $2 million budget shortfall if all department funding requests are approved for 2027.
The county expects about $680,000 in surplus funds, so council members will have to decide which requests to fund.
The proposed budget includes 4% raises for sheriff’s deputies and jail corrections officers, while other departments are seeking additional money.
The county council is scheduled to vote on the 2027 budget Oct. 20.
