Notre Dame made quick work of Rice on Saturday, Sep. 12, opening its home schedule with a 52-0 victory at Notre Dame Stadium.
The Fighting Irish took control almost immediately. On Rice’s second offensive play, Adon Shuler forced a fumble that Boubacar Traore returned 24 yards for a touchdown just 14 seconds into the game.
Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr completed 16 of 20 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns as the Irish built a 42-0 halftime lead. Jordan Faison caught two first-quarter touchdown passes, while the Irish offense continued to capitalize on short fields and sustained drives.
Notre Dame’s defense gave Rice little room to operate, limiting the Owls to just 18 positive yards in the first half and preserving the shutout despite a late Rice threat.
The win moved Notre Dame to 2-0, while Rice fell to 1-1.
Notre Dame returns home Saturday, Sep. 19, to renew its rivalry with Michigan State. Kickoff at Notre Dame Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. on NBC and Peacock.
