Law enforcement is warning families about a sophisticated new imposter scam targeting people with relatives in jail.

Scammers are scraping public online jail rosters to contact family members directly—posing as jail clerks, officers, or bail bondsmen to demand immediate payment.

One recent victim lost over eleven-hundred dollars. Officials advise the public to never send money using cash apps, gift cards, or wire transfers, and to verify all claims directly with the jail or court.
