A bipartisan effort in Washington is putting a spotlight on a severe, often misdiagnosed neurological disorder.

Indiana Senator Jim Banks and Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley have introduced a resolution designating September as Dystonia Awareness Month.

Dystonia causes painful, involuntary muscle contractions and affects up to 300,000 Americans, including many military veterans who developed the condition following traumatic brain injuries.

While there is currently no cure, lawmakers hope this resolution will boost public understanding, improve early diagnoses, and drive critical research toward future treatments.
