A man has been sentenced to 158 years for his role in a hostage situation. 

A St. Joseph County judge sentenced Chad Bean to 158 years in prison for a December 2025 hostage situation and shooting involving SWAT officers in Mishawaka.

Prosecutors say Bean held several people captive at a home on Conner Drive and fired at responding officers. Bean was convicted of multiple confinement, firearm, stalking and attempted murder charges.

WSBT says the attempted murder convictions involved six people who responded to the scene.
