EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A spokesman for an Evansville hospital says an infant born prematurely after a woman was fatally injured when an overloaded van overturned on a southwestern Indiana highway in September has been released in good condition.

Randy Capehart says the infant was released from St. Mary’s Hospital neonatal intensive care unit last week. He says he couldn’t release further information because of privacy laws. The baby’s mother, 19-year-old Christela Georges of Washington, Indiana, was 24 weeks pregnant when the baby was delivered.

Authorities have said the van being overloaded with people and having four badly worn tires contributed to the crash. The van’s driver, James Allen of Washington, was faces 19 criminal charges and is scheduled to stand trial in April.

He remains in custody at the Gibson County Jail.
