INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Four Indiana health centers have won $1.5 million in federal funding to boost their ability to treat people caught up in the state’s growing problem with heroin and painkiller addiction.

The Maple City Health Care Center Inc. in Goshen and Valley Professionals Community Health Center in the western Indiana city of Clinton will both get about $406,000 from the U.S. Health and Human Services.

Meridian Services Corp. in Muncie will get $325,000 and the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County in Indianapolis will get receive about $379,000.

That funding was among $94 million HHS officials announced Friday would be going to health centers across the nation to improve and expand their delivery of drug treatment services.

That funding is focused on treatment of opioid abuse in low-income populations.
