Five brightest planets visible in alignment in pre-dawn sky until mid-February

For the first time in 10 years, the five planets visible to the human eye without a telescope or other device can be viewed in the sky all at once for a limited time.

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn can be seen in the sky simultaneously for a short time before dawn from Jan. 20 to Feb. 20, according to EarthSky.org. The moon will make the planets easiest to see from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6.

They’ll be aligned in an almost-straight line from the horizon to the moon.

Jupiter rises in the evening hours, while Mars rises after midnight, followed by Saturn, Venus and Mercury.

For the best view, look to the sky about 45 minutes before dawn.
