Food trucks to roll in to South Bend after common council approves new ordinance

South Bend residents will see food trucks offering meals around town after the city’s common council voted unanimously Monday night, Sept. 14, in favor of an ordinance allowing and regulating the mobile businesses.

The ordinance allows trucks to operate if the owners pay a $525 annual fee and have liability insurance and if the trucks pass regular health and fire inspections, according to South Bend Tribune.

Food trucks and carts can be parked in areas zoned for business, commercial, industrial and mixed use for up to four hours, including areas parallel to sidewalks, so long as there is a minimum of five feet of unobstructed walking area for customers.
