Elkhart homeowner erects barricades to protect home

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) — An Elkhart homeowner has placed several 1.5-ton concrete blocks in front of the house to protect it.

David Fore tells The Elkhart Truth he put the blocks in front of his home after the Indiana Department of Transportation said it would not install a guardrail.

He had the blocks installed after a car last year rammed a parked car in front of the home, shoving it through the front door and causing heavy damage. Fore says other incidents have resulted in damage to five grills, a riding lawnmower and a septic system.

INDOT spokeswoman Nichole Hacha-Thomas said the agency is investigating the placement of the barricades to see if they are in the public right of way.
