Human trafficking, child solicitation charges filed against Mishawaka man

A Mishawaka man was arrested after he met with an undercover police officer he believed was an underage prostitute.

Patrick B. Zimmer, 28, was charged with one count of human trafficking and two counts of child solicitation, according to online court records. He entered a preliminary plea of not guilty on Aug. 21 and said he planned to hire a private attorney.

According to court documents, Zimmer responded to an online advertisement for sex with a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl posted by undercover police officers, the South Bend Tribune reported.

Zimmer texted with an undercover officer and agreed to meet with one of the girls and would pay her $75 for sex, knowing it is illegal, according to the Tribune. He had $80 in his pocket when he arrived at the location to meet with the officer.

He is being held on $500,000 corporate surety or $50,000 cash bond at the St. Joseph County Jail.
