Cassopolis man dead after jumping from moving vehicle during argument

A Cassopolis man has died after police say he jumped from a moving vehicle.

It happened Friday, Aug. 7, around 11:30 a.m. on M-51 near Peavine Street in Pokagon Township.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Niles, and a passenger, 21-year-old Drake Brewer of Cassopolis, were arguing as they traveled northbound on M-51, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

During the course of the argument, Brewer opened the passenger door of the vehicle and jumped out onto the roadway from the moving vehicle, according to the news release.

Brewer was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac and later airlifted to to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of his injuries.

The sheriff’s office reported on Saturday that Brewer died as a result of his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
