Cass County police warn about IRS telephone scam

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department is warning about an IRS telephone scam.

The sheriff’s office was made aware by a resident that they had received a recorded call claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service.

The recorded message claimed to be a final notice from the IRS and that the recipient needed to call a phone number with a 425 area code to prevent further action by the IRS.

The sheriff’s department reminds you that the IRS does not call citizens for claims out of the blue.

If you get a call, they say do NOT provide any information and to call the local IRS office or the National Office at (800) 829-1040.
