Jackson Intermediate Center in South Bend was placed on lockdown on Wednesday morning, May 20, after school leaders learned that a student had two airsoft guns on campus.

Once the lockdown was in place, authorities searched students’ lockers but didn’t find any other dangerous items, according to a letter sent home with students.

Police took hold of the airsoft guns. The student who brought them was suspended from school and will be further disciplined, according to the letter.

Here’s the letter sent home with students:

Dear Jackson Families:

Today, a student brought two air pistols to school in a backpack. School personnel were informed of this and the school was put on lockdown. The weapons were removed and given to law enforcement authorities. A protective sweep of student lockers was performed and no other items were found. The student who brought the air pistols to school has been suspended and will face additional disciplinary action.
