Elkhart teen dies after crash with semi on C.R. 17 in Elkhart County

A 19-year-old Elkhart man died after he was involved in a crash on C.R. 17 in Elkhart County on Tuesday, according to the St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office.

Austin Woolwine was flown to Memorial Hospital of South Bend after his car crashed into the front of a semi on C.R. 17 north of C.R. 10 just after 7:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the hospital early Wednesday morning, May 20. Nobody else was injured in the crash.

The crash was the fifth deadly crash in as many days in Elkhart County. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department will have extra officers patrolling during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, when many travelers will be on the roads, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partners at The Elkhart Truth.
