Sobriety checkpoint in St. Joseph County results in arrests and tickets for marijuana, open containers

Twelve people were arrested or ticketed during a sobriety checkpoint in St. Joseph County over the weekend, though none of them were for operating while intoxicated charges.

Police stopped 33 vehicles and waved through 271 vehicles between 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 12, according to a news release from the Mishawaka Police Department.

Of those tops, 12 people were either arrested or ticketed on the following charges:

  • Driving while suspended — 2
  • Child restraint — 2
  • Possession of marijuana — 3
  • Criminal misdemeanor — 1
  • Open container — 2
  • Operating a vehicle without a license — 2
