Van Buren County to clean up former winery site where new brewery will be located

PAW PAW, Mich. (AP) — Van Buren County in southwestern Michigan is getting state funding to clean up a former winery for use as a brewery’s new location.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality said Tuesday that the county will get a $30,000 grant and $50,000 loan for brownfield cleanup at the site in Paw Paw. The site will be the new location for Paw Paw Brewing Company.

The new restaurant and brewery also plans to rent out recreational equipment for use on a new trail accessing a lake.

Brownfield sites are vacant or abandoned properties that are known or suspected to be contaminated.
