1,600 in Michiana without power Friday morning during wind advisory

About 1,600 Indiana Michigan Power customers were without power Friday morning, April 10, as heavy winds blew through the area.

As of 8 a.m., I&M reported the following outages:

  • St. Joseph County— 179
  • Elkhart County — 540
  • Berrien County, Mich. — 232
  • Cass County, Mich. — 539
  • St. Joseph County, Mich. — 111

Power was back on for all customers by 10:20 a.m., according to I&M.

A wind advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. for St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben and DeKalb counties in Indiana and Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph counties in Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds 25 to 35 mph with frequent gusts up to 45 mph may lead to downed tree limbs and scattered power outages, according to the advisory.

Drivers should be extra careful, especially high profile vehicles, the advisory states.
