LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A statewide summit is planned to develop ways to end campus sexual assaults.

The wife of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is calling leaders from colleges and universities across the state to the June 8 event in Lansing.

Sue Snyder tells Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley those involved in the summit want more people to report assaults and want uniform programs, policies and punishments. She says “We need to make Michigan a leader.”

She says public university leaders and heads of private and independent colleges in Michigan have pledged to attend the “Let’s End Campus Sexual Assault Summit.”

The U.S. Education Department said last year that dozens of schools nationwide, including some in Michigan, were being investigated for the way they handle sexual abuse allegations.
