Blackhawks one victory away from taking Stanley Cup

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks are within one victory of their third Stanley Cup in six seasons.

The Hawks own a 3-2 lead in the finals after Antoine Vermette scored the tiebreaking goal two minutes into the third period of a 2-1 triumph at Tampa Bay. Kris Versteeg took a shot that was kicked to the slot by goaltender Ben Bishop before Vermette pounced on the rebound and sent the puck into an open net.

Chicago has control of the finals despite little production from Patrick Kane, who was scoreless again on Saturday and has just one point in the series. Jonathan Toews has three points in the series after setting up Patrick Sharp’s goal in the first period.

Sharp put the Hawks ahead 6:11 into the game, and the Lightning continued to trail until Valtteri Filppula scored about 11 minutes into the second period.

Corey Crawford finished with 31 saves in his second straight strong performance. Crawford was perfect while the Lightning outshot the Blackhawks 15-7 in the final period

Bishop stopped 27 shots after missing Game 4 with an undisclosed injury.

The Blackhawks can wrap up the series at home on Monday night.
