A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Church-Union, Norfolk South railroad underpass in Mishawaka is set for Wednesday, June 24, 2 p.m. near the 7th Street/Union intersection.

The new stretch of road is designed to move traffic and pedestrians more effectively and safely with new traffic signals, LED-energy efficient streetlights, and new landscaping amenities, according to Dave Wood, Mayor of Mishawaka.

This project was part of a much larger Main Street corridor improvement plan that includes Bremen Highway, Union, Church, Main and Gumwood Road.

The long-term goal is to make this corridor five lanes from one end of the City to the other.

Over the past 10 years, the City of Mishawaka has spent over $70 million to improve the corridor.

Right now, the only section that is not five lanes is Union Street between 9th Street and Dragoon Trail.

Parking for people attending the ribbon cutting will be at the Union Street Fire Station north parking lot.
