A Dowagiac, Mich., man was found guilty Wednesday, July 8, of several charges relating to a Nov. 29 attack that left a woman bloody and bruised.

Arthur Turner Jr., 25, was found guilty of assault by strangulation, interfering with an electronic communication device resulting in injury, aggravated domestic violence as a second offense and witness bribing/intimidating/interfering as a habitual offender in the fourth degree, according to a news release from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors argued that Turner strangled and beat a woman during an assault, leaving bruises all over her body, according to the news release. The victim received stitches after the attack, which prosecutors argued was not the first time Turner had attacked the victim.

Witnesses testified that they heard the victim screaming for help at about 2:30 a.m. and called police, who arrived and helped the woman.

Turner called the victim and wrote her letters from the Cass County Jail in attempt to convince her not to testify against him, according to the news release. 

He argued that he was innocent.

Turner faces up to life in prison. He is expected to be sentenced during a hearing at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 21.
