The killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe by Dr. Walter Palmer has generated outrage throughout the US and Europe. Dr. Palmer is currently in hiding after receiving death threats, and dozens of celebrities have personally attacked him on social media.

Meanwhile, in Zimbabwe, Reuters asked the government’s information minister to comment on the killing of Cecil the lion. Prisca Mupfumira​ asked: “What lion?”

Western outrage over Cecil’s killing is seen in Zimbabwe as a ‘first world problem.’
