A 23-year veteran of the South Bend Police Department was fired from the department after he was accused of making profane comments to a waitress at the P&G Restaurant in South Bend last fall, amongst other complaints.

In May, South Bend Police Chief Ron Teachman recommended that Sgt. Dave Beaty be fired. The South Bend Board of Public Safety voted in favor of the firing during its meeting Wednesday, Aug. 19, the South Bend Tribune reported.

Beaty was also accused of ignoring orders to help respond to at least 120 crashes in November, wasting time during an overtime shift and still claiming time, lying about how his police vehicle was damaged and reporting the damage late, and leaving his police car unlocked, according to the Tribune.
