LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is leaving for his fifth trade trip to China.

The eight-day investment mission started Friday and ends Aug. 29.

Snyder will meet with government officials, industry executives and media.

He plans to make the case for Chinese companies to expand in Michigan, tout the state as a destination for Chinese tourists and open doors to new markets for Michigan businesses.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. is leading a concurrent trip of seven Michigan companies that will meet with prospective business partners, distributors and buyers.

Snyder says Michigan has attracted more than $1 billion in investment from China, Japan and Korea since his first mission to Asia in 2011.

Nine state officials and Snyder’s daughter Kelsey are going. Her costs are being covered by the Snyder family.
