INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — State Police will be stepping up weekend patrols along the Indiana Toll Road as a part of a multi-state effort to reduce accidents on the nation’s interstates.
One of the targets of the national effort is the tollway, which is a segment of Interstate 80, cutting across Indiana’s northern border. The increased police presence begins Friday and ends Sunday.
State police hope the increase in police presence will drive the number of fatal crashes this weekend down to zero.
August is the deadliest month of the year on I-80, which begins in California and ends in New Jersey.
