SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate who fled a northern Indiana hospital three days after giving birth has been apprehended.
LaPorte County sheriff’s Capt. Mike Kellems says 29-year-old Natasha Peters was taken into custody about 1 p.m. Central time Sunday in Michigan City, about 40 miles west of the South Bend hospital she fled from a day earlier. Kellems says Peters was taken into custody after Michigan City police received a tip.
The baby was born Wednesday and remains at the hospital.

Peters had been held in the LaPorte County Jail until being furloughed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend because of a high-risk birth. She was being held on a charge of armed robbery. Her trial is scheduled for November. Kellys says additional charges are expected to be filed against Peters.
