SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (AP) — Authorities are looking at weariness as a possible cause of a car crash in southwestern Michigan that killed two young women.

Police earlier identified the victims as 20-year-old driver Lydia McIntosh and 19-year-old passenger Raven Spencer, both from Benton Harbor.

Three more passengers, ages 19 or 20, were injured in the crash about 5 a.m. Saturday near South Haven. Deputy police chief Natalie Thompson tells the Kalamazoo Gazette one of the injured, a 20-year-old, told investigators that some passengers had fallen asleep before the crash.

Thompson says the woman reported awakening to the sound of brakes. The other two injured were hospitalized this week.

The crash occurred on Interstate 196 in Van Buren County, 30 miles north of Benton Harbor, as they were returning from the Grand Rapids area.
