Michigan students’ reading score lagging

You can add the State of Michigan to the list of states where school test results are raising a big red flag over reading performance.

Just over 38 percent of Michigan third graders were proficient in English language arts this year, the lowest rate in the 12-year history of the M-STEP.

Reading scores also fell across grades four through seven.

Overall, just 44 percent of students in grades three through eight were proficient in reading, while 35.5 percent were proficient in math.

State leaders said literacy reforms are underway, but many of the changes are still in the early stages.

Time to get those old 1960 Phonics books and the old Granny Math books out. Return to something that worked. This experiment in education by the Union inspired teachers is a complete failure..

No, clearly, the only solution is to throw more money at it. ./sarc

Honestly, you’re not going to fix education until you defund the welfare state. When 3 generations of weffies live in the same house on government checks, the kids simply think that is how you live… So who bother to study in school?
