84 cats, 7 dogs seized from home in Detroit suburb

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — Police say 84 cats and seven dogs were seized from a home that was in deplorable condition in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak.

The Royal Oak Police Department said in a news release that the animals were rescued Monday afternoon after neighbors complained of a strong odor coming from the home. The police department says the homeowners, a 54-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, cooperated with police and let them inside.

The animals were taken to the Oakland County Animal Shelter. Royal Oak police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue says the animals seem in good enough health to be adopted by new owners.

Police say no charges have been filed against the couple.
