Winners of annual ArtPrize competition to be revealed Friday night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The winners of Michigan’s annual ArtPrize competition are being revealed, including two $200,000 grand prizes.

An event takes place Friday night in Grand Rapids to reveal the winners.

After a public vote, 20 finalists were announced last weekend for two-dimensional, three-dimensional, installation and time-based artworks. They come from across Michigan, the Midwest and the U.S., and as far away as Italy. They were selected from 1,550 eligible works.

The list of finalists in ArtPrize’s seventh year included four prize-winning artists from 2013.

Displays started last month and artists are competing for $500,000 in prizes. Public votes were cast using the free ArtPrize mobile app, online and via text message to determine one of the grand prizes. There also are awards by category and a juried grand prize.
