Historic machine gun from 1895 stolen from display in South Milford

SOUTH MILFORD, Ind. (AP) — A decommissioned machine gun that’s been on display in a northern Indiana community for 92 years is missing.

The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday that someone took the 1895 Colt Automatic weapon from a display case in the town of South Milford. It says someone backed a vehicle off a road and took the historic item late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Officers say the suspect vehicle may have rear-end or bumper damage from striking a post at the scene.

South Milford is about 30 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.
