$500 reward offered for historic machine gun stolen from LaGrange County town

SOUTH MILFORD, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana town is offering a $500 reward for the return of a machine gun that had long been a local landmark.

LaGrange County police say someone stole the decommissioned 1895 machine gun from an outdoor display case in South Milford in late October.

Officials say a pickup crashed into the display case and someone took off with the gun.

WSBT-TV reports the town’s Community League is now offering the $500 reward for its return.

The machine gun had been on display in the town about 30 miles northwest of Fort Wayne since 1923 to honor members of South Milford High School who served in World War I.

Police say they don’t have any leads in the theft.
